Arizona Governor Places Prisons before Schools in Latest Budget

Arizona Governor Doug Ducey plans to shift money from the schools to private prisons. The Governor’s plan would build and pay for a new, 3000 bed private prison complex that will cost the taxpayers tens of millions of dollars over the next decade.

Prisons are the few areas that Governor Ducey proposes to increase. Universities, schools and municipalities will compete with private prison contractors for the austere revenues that will be left over.
