Congress has shut down much of the federal government, with the help of some Democrats. Southern Arizona’s Representative Ron Barber voted to shutter the federal government, angering many of his constituents. Arizona Legislator, Phil Lopes condemned the vote, while organizing a protest against the cuts.
“It should never be the policy of the US government to allow firearms to be smuggled into Mexico. A program such as Operation Fast and Furious should never have been approved and must never happen again. There clearly was inadequate oversight that allowed American weapons to fall into the hands of violent Mexican criminals and drug cartel members.”
Today, Southern Arizonan and former Gabrielle Giffords District Director Ron Barber announced his candidacy for Congress in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District. Barber pledged to continue Gabrielle Giffords’ legacy of working across the aisle to solve problems for the people of Southern Arizona such as protecting veterans and seniors, investing in clean energy to create jobs and securing the border.
